Sergeant Major Daniel Joseph "Dan" Daly (November 11, 1873 – April 27, 1937) was a United States Marine and one of only nineteen men to have received the Medal of Honor twice. Of the Marines who are double recipients, Daly is one of two who received their Medals of Honor for two, separate actions.
Sgt Maj Daly is one of the icons of Marine Corps history. His acts of courage are briefed to recruits in order for the young Marines to better understand the responsibilities they are inheriting from a long line of rough, but noble warriors.
Today courage is just as important as it’s ever been, although most of us are practicing and developing moral courage more than physical courage. Courage is a skill and like any skill must be practiced. Courage is doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons. Webster’s Dictionary states, courage is the attitude or response when facing or dealing with anything recognized as dangerous, difficult, or painful instead of withdrawing. We face moments that require courage every day, no matter your profession or what walk of life you come from. All kinds of obstacles will get in the way, just keep practicing and before you know it you’ve got the right skill in response to any stress. Practice…..Doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons.
